a wonderful event, and many people's thoughts often turn to church and the idea of booking a Christening. Are you aware that the Church offers two different means to celebrate the birth of a baby, and we're here to help you make the right choice. The two are a 'Thanksgiving' and a 'Baptism'.
The Thanksgiving Service
Many new parents feel a desire to express their thanks to God for their new child, but may not feel ready to make the commitment to a ongoing journey of faith. The Thanksgiving Service is chance to say 'Thank You' to God and to seek God's blessing for you and your child. It does not involve any other commitment, and friends and family can express their support as Godparents if you like.
This short service can stand-alone, be at a mutually convenient time, and be as small and intimate or as large a gathering as you'd like!
The Baptism Service
God's desire for you and your child is that you know the love of Jesus. Responding to how much God loves you is the start of a journey of faith which can last for the whole of life. Baptism marks the beginning of that journey.
During the Baptiem Service, parents and Godparents are asked to make promises and answer questions expressing their willingness to this journey of faith in Jesus. In doing so, parents and Godparents are making a solemn commitment to bring up their child within the Christian faith. Baptism are therefore usually held as part of the regular Sunday service.
